Guitar Bar Chords

E String - BarChord [A String BarChords]

Bar chords are chords that utilizes a bar with the first finger. Once you learn the way this pattern works you can play EVERY major, minor, 7th and minor seventh chord that exists! Do not be intimidated by these chords. They are a basic part of playing the guitar and one of the most useful things you can learn.

Bar Chords Forms on A String

STEP 1 Put your hand in the "major diagram" below as seen in FIGURE 1. This is a regular major chord.
STEP 2 Put your hand in the "major diagram" below as seen in FIGURE 1. Now lift your middle finger. This is a minor chord.
Major - Barchord
Minor - Barchord
An A chord is made up by placing your index , middle , and ring finger all on the 2nd fret. The open a string is the first string to be played when you strum.
A B chord is created by placing your index finger on the A string 2nd fret. The place your index, middle, and ring finger on the 4th fret at seen above.

A Major Scale:

Root A , 3rd C# ,5th E

B Major Scale:

Root B , 3rd F# ,5th G#

 

STEP 3 Put your hand in the "major diagram" below. Now lift your pinky. This is a 7th chord.
STEP 4 Put your hand in the "major diagram" below . Now lift your middle finger and pinky. This is a minor 7th chord.

An A chord is made up by placing your index , middle , and ring finger all on the 2nd fret. The open a string is the first string to be played when you strum.
A B chord is created by placing your index finger on the A string 2nd fret. The place your index, middle, and ring finger on the 4th fret at seen above.

A Major Scale:

Root A , 3rd C# ,5th E

B Major Scale:

Root B , 3rd F# ,5th G#

There are 4 basic shapes shown above. They are all completely moveable to anywhere on the fretboard. The top note is the root of the chord. The red bar represents a "bar" with your first finger. This is a regular major chord.
